Joaquina Marina Duarte (Kelly)

Happy with her profession and her willpower, she considers herself the girl with the big dreams. A survivor of a family of 25 siblings who had nothing to eat or wear during her childhood, she says that inside her was the certainty that one day all this would change. With a hard life and not knowing what it was like otherwise, she helped her father in the fields when she was just 7 years old, planting, harvesting and making sure that she would "fill" her belly with the leftover food donated by her father's boss, Dona Maria, so that with her donations she could take it to her siblings to eat when she returned home. She says that she always thought about helping others, no matter how much she didn't eat, but her siblings and parents had to have a "full belly".

In a world where weeding and playing with pebbles and on dry land were her fun, she learned that hunger is something that hurts, yes the belly hurts, the organs weaken and yes hunger can kill. Kelly, as she likes to be called, decided to continue loving others. She chose to take everything she went through in her childhood and turn it into something much greater than the hunger she endured for many years.

The sad past and suffering made her stronger and with her fortitude she decided to dedicate herself to those who also have nothing to eat.

After a lot of resistance, she decided not only to tell her story in a book that was exciting to read, but also to donate all the proceeds to buy food for those in need in Brazil. She also made a promise to God to whom she is devoted and believes that as long as she lives on this earth, she will dedicate herself to those in need.
